Shoulder Surgery Instructions

Under Construction

After your shoulder surgery, keep your arm in the sling at all times. Only take your arm out of the sling to bend and straighten your elbow a few times a day. Make sure to squeeze and open your hand as often as you can. Apply ice to your shoulder for the first couple of days after the surgery to help reduce swelling. Keep your bandage dry using a waterproof plastic bag and hairdryer.

Take your pain medication as needed with food. Follow the instructions given in your prescription. Do not wait until the pain become severe before you decide to take medication.

Do not take a shower for the first few days. As an alternative, use wet cloth or baby wipes.
