Hip Surgery Instructions

Patients who have hip fracture surgery or hip replacement are expected to stay in the hospital for several days to recover.

In the hospital be the patient should pedal his/her feet to prevent blood clots from forming. Most patients will go to a short term rehabilitation facility after leaving the hospital depending on how much support the patient needs.

Physical therapy will begin on the morning after the surgery. There, the patient will learn the right amount of weight to put on the operated leg. They will also learn all the necessary restrictions that will prevent the hip from dislocating. The patient will continue to receive physical therapy after leaving hospital.

Schedule a post operation visit for a checkup and obtain further instructions from the doctor.
